Memory card can be inserted in to mobile phones through a special slot provided for them. It allows the users to expand the memory of their phone. These memory cards are now available in different capacities and are very much useful in storage and transfer of files between devices having compatibility.
Micro SD and Memory Stick Micro (M2) are the most commonly used memory cards in mobile phones. Capacities of different memory cards are 2, 4, 8, 16 and 32 GB. Recently, 64 GB memory card is also made available.
Micro SD card
It is a type of flash memory data storage device used in variety of devices like digital cameras, mobile phones, music players, PDAs, etc. They have high re-record ability, and rugged nature. Micro SD is also called as T Flash or TransFlash memory cards. SD in the name stands for Secure Digital.
MicroSDHC cards are also a type of flash memory data storage devices. HC stands for high capacity and it is the upgraded version of micro SD standard. Generally, these cards have same size as that of micro SD cards, but offer higher capabilities of storage like 4 to 16 GB than their counterparts.
Secure Digital (SD)
SD or Secure Digital types of memory cards are popular ones for the storage and transfer of information across compatible devices. Size of SD cards is 24 x 32 x 2.1 mm. They are smaller than Compact Flash cards but larger than the RS-MMC, MicroSD and mini SD cards.
MMC stands fro multimedia card and is one of the oldest types of flash memory cards. These are rugged and small in nature but are used in yesteryear mobiles.
Mini SD and MMCmobile are other types of memory cards used in mobile devices like mobile phones, digital cameras, etc.
